Sam Hunt Wins New Artist of the Year at 2015 American Music Awards
Sam Hunt wins New Artist of the Year at the 2015 American Music Awards and defeated a group of artists from the pop and rap worlds to take home the award on Sunday night (Nov. 22).
“Thank you,” Hunt said, sounding slightly in disbelief, as he took the stage to accept the trophy. The singer went on to recognize “all the people who voted me up here tonight,” and all of those in Nashville who “put your faith in me” and “were down for the long haul.”
“I’m proud to represent country music tonight,” Hunt said. “… Y’all have a good night, AMAs. Thank you.”
Hunt was nominated in the all-genre category along with Walk the Moon, the Weeknd, Fetty Wap and Tove Lo. He also received nominations for Favorite Country Album and Favorite Male Country Artist, the latter of which went to Luke Bryan.
After earning some buzz with his debut single, “Leave the Night On” and debut EP, Hunt released his first album, Montevallo, in October of 2014. All of the record’s first three singles — “Leave the Night On,” “Take Your Time” and “House Party” — have gone platinum and hit No. 1, and the project’s fourth single, “Break Up in a Small Town,” is currently climbing the charts.
